Question, what would be needed to convert a 04 SOHC to a DOHC, would my friend need to get a head from a 2.4L along with pcm? Or would the older 2.0L DOHC heads work, I thought I read somewhere that the oil passages are different. Also would the 2.4L engine bolt up to the trans for a 2.0? Im pretty sure they have the some bolt patteren just making sure.
This has been discussed on several boards. It has been stated that a stand alone engine management system would be needed for this to work. In my opinion, swapping a dohc 2.4L into a sohc neon is easier than a 1G. Reason being the srt/pt cruiser is has the same mounting point as a 2G neon. Should be possible for a 2G neon to use a 5sp pt cruiser pcm, rather than using Mega Squirt.
Some 2000+ dohc heads do have different oil passages, so stay within years with block and head. 1G dohc head have larger exhaust components (cam profile, valves, exhaust ports) than the 2.4L dohc, so a pre 2000 2.4L would be ideal. The 2.4L and 2.0L share the same transmission bolt pattern.
