Default Fixing code p1683

Speed Control Power Relay Or Speed Control 12 Volt Driver Circuit

I just did a random diagnostics check, and this is the first time I have seen this code. How do I go about fixing it? It stays after diagnostics is reset.

Is this for cruise control? Cause it hasn't worked since I got the car, and the vacuum box was smashed open(the one under the washer fluid tank), and I just put a new one on.

DTC P1683 will set if Speed Control (S/C) power supply circuit is open or shorted.

Possible Causes:
  • Ground circuit open.
  • Brake switch output circuit open.
  • S/C power supply circuit open or shortened.
  • S/C servo defective.
  • S/C vacuum solenoid control circuit open or shorted.
  • S/C vent solenoid control circuit open or shorted.
  • Brake switch defective or out of adjustment.
As for testing some of these yourself, you will have to have a scan tool that can activate the servos and solenoids. Other than that, it could be the ground or brake switch.

Oh man, considering I have seen multiple grounds broken(most are dead ends like struts/exhaust etc) I wouldn't be surprised if an important ground is buggered.

Do you have any idea where this "ground" would be? I guess I could look around, or check the haynes manual...

Also, I'm thinking the speed control module is the little vacuum chamber on the passengerside right off the firewall that has a cable going to the throttle? I just ripped one of those off my parts car, I guess I could swap that one out w/lines etc.

My guess is it's full of dirt, cause who knows how long that vacuum box was broken open. Only problem is the parts car vacuum box was broken open as well.

I have a plan now, thanks for that. My only concern now is what else kind of damage could DIRT have done running inside those lines?

I wish I could help more. I don't know anything about cruise control systems. Just found the info for you. Sorry.
