Default Automatic Transmission Reliability

I have owned a 1995 (325000km) and a 2001 (153000km) Neon both with manual transmissions. I’ve never had any transmission or clutch problems with either of them. I have now found a low mileage 2003 Neon with an automatic transmission and am wondering what the reliability of the automatic transmission is like.

Well, I've got a 2004 automatic SE, just over 78000 miles. So far I've had no problems with the tranny, though there's obviously less control than with a manual.

My transmission pump went out about 4 months after I bought mine. However, it seems someone had worked on it before because, for example, the torque converter was from an 02 Neon...

Not sure if it was actually the car or someone messing with it before.

Default found a 5-speed

Thanks for the replies. The reason I was wondering is my 2001 was in an accident and written off. I now have another 2001 with 5-speed and 115000km.

I have an 00 neon and my mother has an 02. Both trannies dropped at about 230k.

That seems to be the magic number for a tranny on an automatic neon. 190-230k. Somewhere in there it will drop.
