Default Can A Trown timing belt mess up a valve ?

Ok my mother in law gave us her neon that threw the timing belt i replaced it , got it all back together and when i step on the gas it seems to be misfiring . Didnt actually drive it anywhere yet but i popped the valve cover to see if i could check the lash and can find any info on checking the valves . Any help appreciated. Oh its a 2001 neon 2.0

does a bear **** in the woods? is the pope catholic?

in all honesty, a guy who works with my brother put off the timing belt change on His 04 Neon, the belt finally broke @ 150k (factory recommendation is 105k), had it towed into his usual Shop,The mechanic he spoke with said if he was very very lucky they might just have to replace the timing belt. So there is hope. It is very likely that the valves are bent or even more damage has been done though.

Couple days later we hear the following follow-up:

Believe it or not... The shop he took his car to said for $500 they could replace the timing belt and see if the engine was OK, or they offered to pay for his towing and give him $25 for the car. He took the money.

if she was running the motor over about 1200 rpm she bent the valves. the 2.0L is known for the head gaskets being **** and the belts braking you can do a head job on one in a little under 2 hours. you best bet is to just buy the 2.0L ho head and drop it on and dont have any issues and only be out about 200 and some change for a head and gaskets
