Default dropping oil pan

how much of a PITA is it to change oil pans on a 2000?

I wouldn't change to a chrome one .. they look good but man did it like to leak oil ... it would never seal right no matter what I did ....

Shouldn't be any worse than the transmission pan. IIRC, there isn't anything "covering" the bottom of the pan.

-Yep, it's not like the older rear wheel drive cars where you'd have to either lift the engine or drop the cross member to get the pan out. It's pretty wide open under the Neons.

ok i need to change it because the people who did the oil before me used an impact wrench to put the drain plug back in and they stripped the bolt and put it in so tight that they pretty much "welded" it in. do i just have to take off the plate between the oil pan and trans and then the pan or is there more?

Yes, it's a huge PITA to remove the pan. There's all those bolts you have to remove and that takes a lot of effort.

They didn't strip the bolt, they round it. If it was stripped you'd be able to pull the bolt out because all the threads would be gone.

i've done tranny pans and oil pans before just didn't have to take anything off before i got to the pan.

I'm confused, If you did oil pans before, why are you asking about this one?

because i haven't done it on this car. most of the work i've done is on ford or chevy
