SRT-4 rims on sxt
Hey guys. It has been a VERY long time since I have been here. I had some problems with users here over a year ago so I took an extended break. Since I was gone, I have been focusing on my gun collecting hobby. But now I am back to working on my 2005 sxt again. Recently, my brother traded in his 2005 crossfire for a 2004 neon srt-4. When he got his new rims, he gave me his stock srt ones. They are powdercoated black and look really nice on my car. Here is the dilemma. I have been googleing about fitment on the sxt and there were a few posts here and thats what led me back. The tires on the srt rims currently are 215/45/r17's. They feel a little squirrely on my car. I do not see anywhere they could be rubbing but I have only had them for a couple days. Also, it could be that the tires are used and worn a little weird as his srt is lowered. What I want to know is if this tire size does or does not cause rubbing issues with a stock sxt suspension. The reason I am posting a new thread on this is because the threads I read only talk about the stock 205/50's and 205/40's and one mention of 215/40's. Thanks.

From 2GN:
If you really don't need the SRT wheels and tires, I'd pass on them all together. Those wheels, with tires, weight quite a bit! You are looking at about 40-45 pounds, per wheel and tire. So take 40-45x5 and you've got 160-180 pounds of just wheel and tire.
Q: Do SRT-4 wheels fit my Neon?
A: Yes. SRT wheels are 17x6", with a 5x100 bolt pattern and 45mm offset. However, the SRT wheels with stock 205/50R17 SRT tires do NOT fit, because the tire is too tall. There are two main places the tire needs to clear the car. It needs to clear the strut perch that the springs sit on, and it needs to clear the edge of the fender. The SRT wheels will rub against the spring perches. Some people have used them anyway, and simply ground material off the spring perches with a grinder, or hammered the spring perches with a hammer to get enough room for the tires to fit. The best way to use these wheels is to select a slightly shorter tire. This will keep the overall height low enough to clear the strut perch, as well as keep the wheel to axle ratio correct (see the TIRES section below for more information on tire sizing).

Q: What size tires do I need for my aftermarket wheels?
A: The ideal overall tire height is 603mm (23.740") for all non-SRT vehicles. Use the following pre-calculated tire sizing chart to see which common tire size is best for your application. Keep in mind, every 5mm is approximately 0.20".

The only other way for the tires to fit is to have SRT4 struts on your SXT. Other than that, your tire size has to be abit smaller to fit on your stock SXT strut. I have the SRT4 struts, I was running the stock srt4 tires and rims on mines. But now, I'm running the stock sxt rims and tires, due to the snow here in the four corners area. I can always switch back anytime.
