Default Engine rpm drop at idle/oil pressure light comes on

2003 Neon 2.0 SXT. Does anyone have a definite answer to this low engine rpm at idle?
Engine rpm drops in gear at a stop from 700-800 rpm to 500-550 or so and the low pressure oil light comes on on the dash. As soon as I accelerate from a stop the low pressure oil light goes off. Plugs were changed about 1000 miles ago with correct copper replacement Champions..

Have you checked the oil level?

You should determine if oil pressure has dropped.

Me being me, I'd replace the oil pressure sensor and see if the light comes back on. The oil pressure sensors are a commonly replaced part on these cars. Stick with a Mopar unit, too.

Yes I did. It was between min and max on the dipstick where it should be. So I figured well let me fill it to max. Sure enough filled it to max. No more oil pressure light coming on. Go figure!

If the light comes back on, replace the sensor. You won't see the light again. Adding 1/2 qt. of oil didn't raise the pressure.

Thanks. Where is the oil pressure switch located?

Right behind the engine. You'll need a 1 1/16" deep socket to change it. Pretty much reach over the top of the engine, disconnect the harness, remove and replace. I added a little extra thread sealant as well when I replaced mine.

Can you get to it easily if it's on a lift?

Sounds like it's easier to reach over the top of the engine.
