No, that is totally normal. 231's came in 1500's. The T-case saver is more than a pipe bushing, and yes it will.

lolz, pipe bushing!

My snap ring was in place and in great condition. We'll see though as I'm going one seal deeper than you. Bumping this for the knowledge!!

I actually did this after rebuilding my transfer case. Hows that for one-upping?

Wait a second, that is 1-upping? A rebuild? I'd say you're a -1 in that mine is not in need of a rebuild. hahah!!

So, looking again, you didn't have to take the output bearing housing off for this....? Undoing those bolts, does the output bearing on the shaft come off with it?

^^ Ouch!

Yes, the bearing is pressed into the output bearing retainer.

Completely forgot about this. Add this link to your OP broham. I need to get this.

I think I'm going to redo the RTV on the case halves too. Appears to be weeping from the outside look. Did you ever do that over your "rebuilds"?

I've got residue everywhere and I just went to wipe down to try and get a better idea.

What are the symptoms when the snap ring has failed? Do you get abnormal vibration? Do chuncks of metall appear when you change the fluid? Tail shaft seal fails?
Thanks in advance.

Usually its just odd noises while moving. Not too bad to check. Drop the driveshaft, pull the tailhousing, and see if it is still there.
