The Official 2nd Gen RAM Forum OT thread
408 with a question mark, for sure. I had the new thicker heads from odessa, 1.7 HS roller rockers, and double roller timing set recently installed hoping that uncracked heads and fresh unburnt valves would solve my oil burning issues and oil in radiator issues. There is no more contamination of oil in the coolant, but I'm still burning about 2 qts of oil per tank, even using 15w-40 oil. I knew going in that the piston rings may be bad, but I figured I wasn't buying anything that I wouldn't need for a full rebuild anyway. Now to save up more cash and get input from the resident experts on whether it's worth it to spend the cash on a 408 short block over a 360 for a daily driver, if the factory valve size and chamber size heads would push compression too high with the longer stroke, and what kind of mileage I might be looking at. I keep hoping that with the upgrades and repairs I've done so far, my mileage might get better than 12. Not yet. If the new parts I just installed will play nice with a stroker and I can get really good power and torque with dropping mpgs, I'd be happy.
my apologizes.. i must admit i did not read through the 1640 pages of this thread before posting.....
It's probably long past time this thread should be LOCKED and a new Off Topic thread started.
Here's a suggestion for The Powers That Be: Let the Off Topic thread run the course of a year and then lock it on December 31 or January 1, at which point a new Off Topic thread is started.
With that in mind, why not lock this one and start a new one (ie Official 2nd Gen Off Topic Thread - 2014) and let it run for the remainder of the year?
