Ram for first car- Good idea? Any problems?
Hey guys, Im 16 and am shopping for my first car. I was originally looking at Fords (Vehicles of the family, $3500 later....) Chevy's another popular one among the family but I don't know, I just don't like them a whole lot. I have pretty much converted myself to a Dodge person, despite objections from my Toyota/Ford loving father. I was thinking about a stratus but have decided I want a truck. My budget is around $2800-3000 depending on the truck. The only things I really need are 4x4 and hopefully an extended cab, but is doesnt make a whole lot of difference. So, do you guys think that it would make a good first car? Thanks!

When I was daily driving my Ram, I was putting $100-$150 a week in gas. I've had it for 3-4 years and have put 2 sets of tires, all steering linkage plus had to change a tie rod twice, 2 track bars, plenum fix, water pump, radiator, hoses, plugs 3 times, wires, cap and rotor, front brakes 3 times. Also replaced all u joints and the wheel joints twice. 2 mufflers, shocks twice. And I can't remember what else right now.
Think about it before you get one. If you are mechanically inclined then you will be learning quit a bit. If you'll be taking it to a mechanic, your better to look at something else.
These trucks are old, '94-'01, so 12-19 years old, **** will break, And with the cost of gas and the low mpg these get, 11 mpg for me, cost adds up quick.
Now on the other hand, these trucks are workhorses. I've hauled more than I should 2k+lbs in the bed, and towed way more than I should 10k+lbs, and it's still running and driving. Hell, I even dragged a shipping container that was sitting on concrete. It had NO wheels or anything. Just a metal container weighing 10k lbs. sitting there. Had all 4 wheels spinning, but it did it.
