Default steering wheel question

let me start off with this, i hate the stock steering wheel on these trucks everything from how big it is, to how skinny the wheel feels in my hand to where the cruise control is located on the wheel. so im looking at new wheels, is there anyway to keep my cruise control? extend the wires and relocate it somewhere else? have any of you guys done this or seen it? tips?

Cruise control controls are indeed in a rather inconvenient location... I agree with ya on that one. I haven't seen anyone do any kind of swap here though. Even a 98-up steering wheel would be better......

I have a leather wrap on my wheel, gives it a bit more diameter.....

I haven't seen any aftermarket wheels that include the cruise buttons..... I think we are stuck.

Well.... just as a thought....

The cruise switches just modify an input voltage, to 'suggest' to the PCM what it should do. So, supposedly, you could just build a little box, with three momentary "On" switches, and mount it someplace convenient, and just splice it into the current harness. (mount the box on the steering wheel somewhere, within easy reach, and splice it into the existing connector for the cruise....) You could even put the resistors elsewhere, so you can make the box a bit smaller.... it is just a tiny amount of current, so you could use tiny little switches as well.

i thought about that, something like where i flush mount switches in the lower dash to the right of the steering wheel. i achieve best mpg when in cruise so it would be so dumb to cut it out. i want to hear some other guys inputs. thanks man

Cruise control is one thing, airbag is another one.

Ooops. Forgot about that little detail......

I don't know if there are any laws that REQUIRE you to have it functional, if your vehicle was originally so equipped. I drove for many many many years before I even SAW a vehicle with an air bag.
