FireDodge's 360 Build
#211
I have an opportunity to get a 241DLD transfer case from a guy I know for only $100. It came off of a 97 2500 with the diesel. Do you guys think it's a good deal? Or should I wait and try to find a 241DHD? The ultimate goal is to run 37-40" tires on Dana 60's with 5.13 or 5.29 gears. Also, will my 46RE bolt up to either style?

If it came from behind a diesel, no, it won't. You would have to change the input hub on the t-case. (diesel and v-10 had larger trans output shaft, and different spline count)
DHD would be better....... but, for 100 bucks? Hhhmmm....... might check and see how much the right hub would cost as well, take it from there.

Yeah, the price is what caught my curiosity. He's getting a fancy schmancy transfer case for his crawler build and he offered his stock case to me.
Is there a better+ transfer case I could look for that would possibly bolt right up? I'm tempted to see just how far I can push my 231HD in the near future, but would love to have another transfer case before I find that out haha.

If the input shaft is 23 spline it should bolt up no problemo. 241DLD is great t case. So is the 231. The 241 has six planetaries as opposed to the three the 231 has. The main difference in the HD and LD is the larger chain. There's some bigger bearings and what not. The extension is housing is also one peice in the HD.
The LD is well worth the 100 bucks tho.
