Default Praise post for a change

I see a lot of complaint threads on here, which i understand. People need advice and post more when there is an issue. Its always started and never left me stranded. Does all sound normal or is my truck less reliable than most? To me this ain't bad compared to the GMC's and chevys I've owned.

1. Tie rods and track bar
2. Fuel tank straps
3. Front axle u-joints
4. water pump, t-stat, belt
5. brake lines (most of them) some were good.
6. tires, battery
7. front brake pads, rotors
8. plugs, wires
9. muffler

you have a manual trans, so that eliminates 1 major problem. all your maintenance is normal. your plenum is likely sucking air but you don't know it yet. if you put a tuner on it to advance the timing a little, you'll get into the pinging.

how's your dash. if its good - cover it up with a quilt or blanket to keep the sun off. mine was originally good and then one day - bang.. it started cracking like an egg.

you'll need more stuff in the coming years - all normal - front axle bearings, seals, cad repair, oil pump, oil pressure sensor, rear main seal, timing chain and front seal, rear ujoints, radiator, valve cover gaskets. etc.

Oh yeah I'm aware of the plenum. It pings under heavy acceleration and uses bout 1 quart per oil change. I've just put it off. And don't feel its worth the hassle at the present. But good lord if its gonna need all that you mentioned then I retract my previous post! Dash was cracked when I bought it I put a cover on it then.

How many miles you got?

Thing with the magnums is they don't have to be in tip top shape to run. They'll go leaking oil and missing like a mother, not good for the engine but they will

Right now 142,000. HA Not even 20k in 4 years. I live 2 mi from work and work 45-50 hrs/week. If I keep the truck after winter I'll do the plenum fix and valve cover gaskets. Just spent $700 on tires and a battery so it can wait til then. If I spend $30 in gas/week, I drove a lot for me. The engine does run great though. Smooth, quiet, even towed a car without much issue.

Don't be scared off. These trucks are actually worth fixing. And not everyone has the same problems. You may get lucky and only replace half the stuff dvaughn said. Or you might get unlucky and have to replace more

Just when you have to fix something do it right. Do it once

You've got the best version of these trucks. All the best of the 2nd gen 2.0 without deathflash. Don't get rid of it. 2000 was the peak year of this generation.

I'm pretty sure it has the deathflash. On the PCM on firewall it say something along the lines of "Authorized reprogram" or similar.

It MIGHT have it. Sure, go ahead and check for it. But the only way it got it is if the first owner took it back to get it. The deathflash wasn't introduced until late 2001.

The "authorized reprogram" is the death flash. Sucks. All 2001 have it from the factory and some very late 2000s.
