RE: 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9L
As others have said, thanks for serving. My boys in the Navy and I spent 10 years Army.
I agree with Tommygunz, the throttle body spacer does not help our trucks.
I run the edelbrock shorties and am very happy woth them. Had a set of summit/pacesetter shorties that burnt out. Waste of money for them, but others have had good luck with them so! A number of us have went with the less expensive 14 inch round air cleaner with a K&N round filter. I believe it allows my engine to get all of the air it needs where the K&N CAI was limiting it a little.
Definitely go with the Fastman 52mm throttle Body. I actually watched Dan machine mine and he even installed it for me in this driveway. It definitely makes a big difference. If you can swing it, some of us have seen noticeable engine improvement with the installation of an MSD ignition system with matching MSD Blaster coil and 8mm or 8.5 mm spark plug wires. Replace your cap and rotor also with copper connection cap and rotor.
If you're going into your exhaust, I also run the Flowmaster 40, purchase a Magnaflow High Flow catalytic converter. It will allow the rest of your exhaust mods to work better. Unless you're good with cutting and welding exhausts, I'd recommend having an exhaust shop fit it in. That's actually gonna be my next mod.
Another thing you can do is install Harlan Sharp 1.7 roller rockers. These will give your valves additional liftbetter than the factory cam does for you.I can't ermember the mans name in Florida, but others will remember his name. he designed therocker arms and will give you the best price available anywhere.
Some guys run a 180 thermostat cause a cooler engine gives more power, but some like me can't cause it cause the check engine light (CEL) to come on. Others have been lucky and have not had that problem.
Take care over there and keep in touch. There's a lot of good info on this forum and all of us will be very happy to give you whatever tips we can.
If you've an unlimited budget of course you can go into Superchargers, stroker motors and such, but it sounds like you are looking for bolt-on performance on somewhat of a budget.
