ok guys, I went looking for the air intake from a 198? or 199? cadillac engine, but I coulednt remember what year to look for or what CID to lok for
I thought it was a 4.7L caddy engine and 1984? I dont think thats right...pictures, ideas, will any other car air cleaner fit the 1997 dodge 360 holly TB...

I'm laughing pretty hard right now. If I understand correctly, you are trying to take an air intake from a 1984 Cadillac for your truck,,,,,,,,,,right? WTF? Does the truck not have an intake or what? Dude, go to the link I put above. Just get a something normal. Don't waste your time and money trying to cobble a Cadillac to a Dodge or whatever!

 

1992-1994 Dodge 15 passenger vans
with the Magnum 5.2 V8 (brand new back then)
have a more conventional round air cleaner
if you want to switch to that style.

The Holley Throttle Body used on the 5.2/5.9 V8s
has the same standard diameter mount as the old carbs
so that part will fit,
but you will find that the firewall comes too close to where
the throttle body is and hits most older air cleaners.
You certainly could make your own and offset the hole for the tb.

If you wish to improve the stock square Magnum 5.2/5.9 v8 airbox
at low cost,
you can grind out an additional hole on the driver's side for an additional air hose that can be run to the grille at the side of the radiator. The plastic tube running over to the passenger side fender can be replaced with a tube to the grille in a similar way. Keep in mind that these forward facing tubes will pickup slightly higher air pressure....but they also will sweep in bugs, grit, little pieces of plastic bags and so forth.

At full throttle and 3200 rpm the stock Ram pickup Magnum 5.2/5.9 V8 airbox will generate about a 4 inches of water restriction IN FRONT OF the air filter measured with a manometer at the PCV hose going to the driver side breather on the valve cover.

With the simple/cheap twin hose mod you can get rid of this minor restriction and pickup a bit of ram air effect at higher vehicle speed....again with the disadvantage of picking up more dirt. I say it is a minor restriction because 4 inches of water is about 1% of the 404 inches of water pressure that the air in the atmosphere has. 404 inches water = 14.7 psi = 30 inches of mercury.

With a bit morework you could run the hoses to new holes in the firewall to pickup air from the plenum there (below the windshield wipers) that feeds the air vents going into the truck interior. This spot has high air pressure and lower temperature...but it makes a lot more noise that you can hear in the cab of the truck. This noise comes in through the air vents.

When Kenne Bell Company took the factory air intake box off
(fender tube, airbox, filter and plactic elbow to throttle body)
from a 1998 Magnum 5.9 V8
and replaced it with a big hose to the far outside of their dyno building
their rear wheel dyno showed
a 7 rear wheel hp gain.

Your mods will show a bit less than this
if there is any kind of filter in your system
because even the least restrictive filter
creates 2-4 inches of water restriction.

Less restrictive air filters do not improve MPG
in typical daily driving.
The butterfly plate in the throttle creates one hundred times
the restriction that the air filter and intake tubes do
and if you make the air filter less restrictive
the butterfly plate will just close off more.

imo, see if you cant find a round cleaner with 2 snorkels, like an carb'd fox body, or carb'd camaro.

Example 1: You and your misfire.

If I thought I had a flat tire, I would ask people how I can figure this out (if I was that stupid). I wouldn't ask people what they are getting for mileage to tank to compare if my inconsistencies supported my idea about a flat tire. Instead of running multiple tanks of fuel through my truck when it is clearly a) not running right and b) definitely has a problem that I can narrow down, I would like to find the most efficient way to trouble shoot to save me money, time, effort, and tons of problems.

Same to you. If you thought that you had a misfire, ask us about a misfire. Not about mileage to a tank. When you take your vehicle to a dealer or mechanic and ask about a misfire, do you think the first trouble shooting step would be to drive it for hundreds of miles to determine the fuel usage and compare this with what it should be getting, or do you think that they would check the ignition system?

Example 2: Making an air filter out of a 1984 Cadillac intake

Why would you even bother. Engineers designed the factory intake. Leave it. Or if you want to change it, go buy the correct after market FIPK.

I'm sorry to offend you MB. I just like to do things correctly. I'm not one to cobble or try to figure out the hardest way to get from point A to point B. I mean, if you have fun doing things the long hard way, rock on!

At first glance
I would be concerned about that Caddilac 4.7L air cleaner
not directing the air down into the twin throttle openings
of a 5.2/5.9 Magnum V8.

Certainly the 'air horns' on the factory Holley throttle body
are not in the right positon to direct the air coming at them
from the Caddilac air box.

But like all airbox mods
the way to judge is to read the MAP sensor
before and after the modification
and not try to 'eyeball' whether there is an improvement.
