V10 Starter

V10 Starter
Alright so over the weekend my truck died on me. well not so much died as ran just fine then wouldnt start again...
question is. Is there anything i should know before i put the new starter in?
Here is the timeline for your ammusment
Friday night.
10:00 Pm - left salt lake
11:00 Pm - shut down truck to pickup girlfriend
saturday morning
12:00 Am -left girlfriends house
3:00 Am -shut down truck to try to figure out where the hell we are going because she didnt get directions (we drove around the campsite for 1 hour at this point trying to figure out where we were)
3:15 Am -tryed to start the truck, heared a grind so poped the hood looked around checked fluids etc (no problem found)
3:25 Am -started truck (small grind but turned over)
4:00 Am -found campsite parked truck walked to the RV and barly made it to the bed before i passed out (was up for about 48 hours at this point)
7:00 Am -woke up had breakfast
8:00Am -went to figure out what was going on with the truck (thuoght dead battery)
8:30Am -jumpstart would not start truck just a loud grind
9:00Am -thought starter might be bad so pulled it
10:30Am - finally got starter pulled (limited tools or it would taken 30 minutes)
11:00Am - was pulling starter apart to find all the housing and most of the bearings banged up, dented or destroyed (came to the realization there was no redneck fix for this
saturday afternoon
12:00Pm - called napa, autozone, carquest, checker, and about 8 dealers to find out that noone in utah has a starter motor... (just about tore the head off of whoever came within 100 feet of me)
3:00Pm - called tow truck
4:00Pm - called my dad and had him order a starter for me (should arrive thursday)
7:00Pm - tow truck arrived
10:00Pm - arrived at home - paid the 450$ - started drinking
10:30Pm - finished drinking the 6pack i had handy and called my brother
11:00Pm - went to coffee
12:00Pm - got home and passed out

You should be fine.....although ya might want to check you flywheel and make sure there are no broken teeth. Just have someone turn the engine with a BIG bar attached to a socket attached to the crank bolt while you look at the flywheel with a flash light. Or you can just turn the engine yourself with a big prybar at the flywheel, but its harder to do. Only other thing is if there were any shims between the starter and the bellhousing, make sure you use the same amount. In other words, make sure it was only the starter that was damaged.

let me just say i got really lucky on a whole lot of fronts - my starter arrived 2 days early and i got it installed last night - the flywheel was good as well (checked that on saturday when i was pulling the starter) no shims were installed.
it took me 30 mins to get the starter installed... took me hours to take it out though... go figure
