Default 98 ram 1500 5.2 transmission

My tranny is going bad in my 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4 auto with the 5.2 I found a good cheap tranny out of a 1998 dodge ram 1500 4x4 auto with the 5.9 Will it work for my truck

Should bolt right up. You have a 46re, and the other one should be a 46re. I'd just double check make sure the other transmission is a 46re, like I said it should be, but if it matches, it should bolt right up!

Just change the fluids in both the tranny and transfer case for good measure, aswell as the tranny filter. Both take ATF+4.

Isn't there something about the internally vs externally balanced engines and having to change over the flex plate?

In this particular instance, I don't think its an issue. In 96, Dodge moved the balance weights from the torque converter, to the flexplate... So, theoretically at least, tc should be neutral balance, and bolt right up to the 5.2 flexplate.

It might be a good idea to simply pick up a new torque converter though.... Do NOT re-use the old one off the failing trans.

The torque converter is brand new on my failing tranny as of 1000miles ago can I still use it and other then changing over the torque converter I'll be good then?

Why is your trans failing? Still may want to get a new TC. You don't know what got into the one just replaced.

^^This.

Crap likes to accumulate in the tc, and it is pretty much impossible to clean it out. You really don't want to be circulating that junk into the new trans. It will drastically shorten its life.

Well the tranny isn't burning up or anything just every now and again when I floor it and I'm in I think 3rd gear it will hit like 4k rpms and it will stop Speeding up and just rev until I release the gas

That's either a loose band, or an electronic problem. Might be an easy fix.....
