Default '98 5.2 4x4

Would the ourput speed senor be located in the same place on a '98? Local shop wants $72.86 for the part and 69.97 for labor, total $142.83. Trying to save a few bucks.

Thanks for any help. The pics are great.

I think on the 98's, the VSS is the sensor mounted on the rear axle. One or two bolts, and a wiring harness connector. Can change it in your driveway in less than ten minutes.

Default Output Speed Sensor

I've replaced the sensor on the rear differential. I need to replace the output speed sensor on the transmission. Need to know where it's located. Thanks.

Found it. How much tranny fluid will come out when I take out the sensor? Thanks.

98 only has one on the rear diff. They do not use one on the tailshaft.

I'll vouch for that, I just recently went looking for mine and it's in the rear end, not on the tranny. Mine's a 98 also

I am trying to find the output speed sensor on my 1994 1500. I found a sensor on my trans (driver's side just above the linkages) that looks similar to the part I just bought at Autozone, but it does not look exactly the same.

Here is what I bought:

The sensor that I am looking at on my truck looks like I would have to drop the pan to remove it. The new one appears to be installed without removing the pan.

The plug connector on the new part looks like it would fit the plug from my truck, except one of the slots is backwards (ridge instead of a slot).

Does the pic by DanDMan apply to the 1994? I am still trying to determine if I have found the location of the output speed sensor. Thanks.
