New to the forum, getting ready to buy a Ram 1500. Any suggestions?
Hi, I am getting ready to buy a used Ram 1500 4x4. I have been looking at a 97 extra cab Sport 4x4 with 71000 on it. My other choice is a 2000 Ram 1500 4x4 extra cab Sport with 57000. Any advice before I make the final decision on one of these? I have not had a 4x4 before so I appreciate any advice that can be given.
What about lift kits for the front end to level the trucks? Easy or hard to do? good or bad idea?
What can be done to get more power from the 5.9?
Things to look for during the initial inspecton?
TIA

Both are great trucks. I have a 97 ram as well, and also had a 99, which I traded for the HEMI. I love my 97, best truck I've ever had, given me minimal problems in it's 90,000 miles, I'll keep it till it dies. However, I'd suggest the 2000, with it being a sport package it'll have a little different look, the front end is different (grill and bumper cover). Also, it has an updated dash, it was changed in 1998, which has a much better layout than the 97, the cup holders are actually worth while in the 2000, also the 20,000 less miles isn't a bad thing either. Whichever truck you choose, i'm sure they'll serve you well. 4x4 is a great option, especially in the snow, which is the only thing I use mine for.
