95 2500 5.9 need help asap
I'm considering buying a 95 2500 5.9 360 5 speed really soon, there is already other offers on the truck so I have to act fast.
The truck has a 3inch body lift and the linkage wasn't adjusted, the owner says that while driving if you hit the brakes hard it will try to shift into 4x4, also the instrument cluster completly doesn't work, and it needs tie rod ends, and ball joints, and a 4x4 half axle. I was just wondering if anyone would know why it would try to shift into 4x4 like that, as well as any other opinions anyone may have. How much does anyone think it would cost to fix everything, and what would this truck be worth?
Thanks,
Josh

My best guess on the 4x4 shift problem is that when the truck got lifted, the linkage was just stretched out and it is now stretched to the max. (There are a couple of rods linked together that you can move around a bit.) When you hit the brakes hard it will tend to rock the truck body forward and being that the linkage is already tight it pushes back on the transfer case and shifts it.
I don't know how much the total repair would be. If your looking for AutoZone stuff, then balljoints are probably 80 for uppers and lowers and I think both tie rod ends would run about 60

Do you know how I could adjust the linkage or add a link?

i wouldn't buy it unless he's giving it away for about $1000-1500. it sounds like a fixer-upper that went downhill instead of up. by the time you fix the front end, lift/shifter, possible cluster (god knows whats wrong with that, anthing from .50 fuse to major wiring), you could sink a bundle.

I'm not sure how to do it, or even if that is the issue. That is just my best guess. I would imagine it might not be too terrible to tackle, but again, i've never done it.
If you surf through the forum there is probably a thread about how to do it somewhere.
