Default thermostat housing?

ok, i've been having this re-occurring problem lately with my coolant leaking from underneath the thermostat housing. at first, i thought it was coming from the hose to housing connection, but theres no way thats possible. the clamp is tight as hell. anyway, i'm pretty sure its coming from under neath the housing. it happened with my old housing and now its happening with my new housing. both had brand new gaskets on them. my question is what is causing this to happen? is the intake manifold warped or something? could the mounting surface be uneven so it just leaks by? i plan on putting a bead of high temp permatex around the housing/gasket. that should do it. just curious if anyone had any opinions...

You probably are not getting all the old gasket off of the mating surface. If you can get a straight edge razor blade to get all the old gasket off, then you might need to pull the Alternator and do it that way. Also I do know that these housings are a pain to get to set just right on the manifold, they will leak.
are you still using the old spring type clamp?

after looking at my truck, to see if everything was okay, I notice a small leak on the metal tube coming out of the water pump. It's attached to the heater hose. Any chance the leak is coming from there? If it indeed is coming from the stat housing, make sure the thermostat is well seated. it could be that when you put the housing back on, you knock the stat out a little 'causing it to wedge itself in the gasket. Also make sure to check the coolant temp sensor for leaks. could be there. And last but not least it could also be you intake end seals that are leaking. They've been known to leak at the corners, where the intake gasket meets the end seals. best of luck. hope you fix it.

just a regular gasket will work in most places if you take the time to prep the surface material. I like to use rtv, but it isnt needed 100% of the time.

I guess if the coolant leaking from underneath the thermostat housing, there is a big possibility that the gasket is already worn.
