Default Need a "wild vent" check valve Pic please!

My "wacky vent" problem is back again on my '96 1500 4x4. Last time it was the vacuum tube to the cruise mod under the battery tray. Replaced it, quick & easy fix. It's fine this time and research on the posts here seems to indicate that I might need to put the 4677204 check valve in. But, I can't figure out where it goes. I offered the guy at the parts desk a 12 pack and he told me I'd figure it out if you can believe it!

Anyone got a picture of where it goes on a '96? Or maybe I need to find a service guy who drinks beer!

Mark

these pics are from an 01, but it might help. the check valve in about the diameter of a quarter, maybe a little smaller, and about 1/4-3/8 thick. i think its at the beginning of your vacuum wad. its visible in my 3rd pic here, w/ the yellow stripe.

Look to the left of your PCV valve in your pic. The "T" in those vac lines ; the circular part in the
top branch is a check valve. The other one is just off the intake manifold. You have to pull the vac tubes apart to replace it.

I hope this helps. I think the guy at the parts deck didn't where it goes either. A lot of the time, from my experience, there all show and no go. There's a diagram that will show you what you need to know. A pictures worth a thousand words!!!

There's gonna be a size differences going from one tube to the other. What I did, instead of buying reducers and other crap (I know I'm cheap), well let's say you have a 3/8's inch vacuum hose and you need to convert one side to fit a 1/2 fitting. Get a drill and a half inch drill bit and fit it over one side of the 3/8 inch hose, pinch it and power the drill on until you have your desired size. Worked great for me. It's a lot easier then it sounds...my vents are still "WILD" though.

Hey Laramie, I thought the TSB said not to block the air flow going to Reservoir because it will affect your cruise control. Did it work for you the way you did it?

Well guys, I haven’t been able to get to try any of your ideas on this after work this week since this wicked spring cold knocked me on my butt. I should be able to mess with it on Saturday. Cruise control is a problem too so I’m wondering if I’ve got a leak as well. I’ll let you know what I find.

No it DID NOT affect the cruise control.... It worked for me, but only because I knew I didnt have a leak underneath the battery box, like most people have.

Red face

Well, it's fixed but it turns out it wasn't the check valve after all. My best advice? If you think you checked the vacuum line to the cruise mod under the battery tray - check again... AND, there is no substitute for a good old suck test!

It looked good... moved it all around with the tray cleaning acid off (should have been my first clue - but I had already replaced the darn thing once before) Failed the "suck" test - was rotten just inside the rubber boot where it connects to the cruise module. I just took an 1/8" drill bit to get the old piece out cut a clean end and shoved it back in. Good to go.

Of course now I feel like an idiot but someone will learn from my mistake. I hope!...

Thanks for the help and the pics!
