This is an example of a 1999-2001 Sport model:

An example of a 1998 and earlier Sport model:

1998 and earlier Sport models had same color grille and front bumper (both primary and lower pieces). Ignore the bug guards in the example picture, they are extra add-ons and had nothing to do with Sport vs. non-Sport.

1999-2001 Sport models had a completely different front bumper, and quad headlamps (9004 inner bulbs for high beams, 9007 outer bulbs for low beams).

Not sure on where the decals were each model year, although I know they had "Sport" decals.

There were no performance/suspension/etc. differences between a Sport and non-Sport models. The only difference was aesthetics.

For an example of a 1994-2001 non Sport truck, look at my signature below.

Chrome bumpers/grill = non sport. If you dont have foglights, its a non-sport. And I think that even the 96 had color matching taillights.

Keep in mind that no matter what your truck currently has, someone may have changed things around at some point anyway. Some people like chrome. Some people like color-matched parts. A previous owner could have swapped the bumpers and grill and removed the "Sport" stickers on the sides of the box. Mine is a sport, and the stupid stickers all over the place are magnets for wax build up (which sticks out like a sore thumb on a black truck). I'm half tempted to go stickerless. I also have genuine imitation simulated wood grain plastic trim on some of the interior trim.

I'm pretty sure my '98 shows it has the sport package on the label on the underside of the hood. The label also explains other optional equipment such as engine, trans, axle gearing, limited slip in the rear, etc.... I'm pretty sure it also mentioned "Sport." That being said, if your hood was ever replaced, you may not have a label at all anymore, or in the case of a used hood, you might have the wrong label. Your best and safest bet is to check the VIN with a dealer.

There were no suspension differences or different wheel options available on a Sport.

I own a 1996 1500 sport. The sticker is on the side of the bed. The grill and the bumper are painted to match the paint on the truck, and there are fog lights in the bumper. These are the only differences between the sport and non-sport models.

Thanks for the replies. I'm about 99.99% sure it's not a sport

Just to clear this up, there were some available wheel options. When I ordered my truck I had the choice between the newer looking mags or the older/original style looking ones. I also could have gotten the steelies if I wanted.

Of course, that probably pertains to ordering a truck only, but the options were out there.

the sports had color matched front and rear bumpers, color matched grill, and color matched tail lights, thats the only diffrences, if none of those parts on your truck are color matched its more then likely a non sport.

What do you mean by newer vs older looking aluminums? I thought a Sport could get the 5 slot chrome plated steel wheels, the 5 spoke aluminum wheels, or the 3 spoke aluminum ones, just like any SLT could.
