Default Front speakers not working

I have a 01 2500 quad cab with a stock radio/cassette player. I have 4 speakers, one in each of the 4 doors, again stock. One of the front speakers died a couple of years ago, so I replaced it with a used one. It has now died as well. The other original speaker cuts out periodically. I increase the volume and it comes back to life. This is what the other two speakers did before they died altogether. I have not had any problems with the rear speakers.

I never play the radio loud so I don't understand why these stock speakers are failing so much. Is anyone else having this same problem ???

Never had that happen on a stocker set up. I don't know much about you, but here are some ideas???...

1. Do you ever leave your windows down?
2. Have you or a passenger accidentally split something on the speaker
3. Did you use the stock wiring harness when you changed them out?
4. If no to 3, did you make sure the polarity is correct?
5. have you split something on the dash that might have leaked on the back of the stereo?

That would be where I would look at first.

You might just pull the radio out of the dash, and check to make sure all the plugs are seated fully. Also, you might check the wiring going from the deck to the speakers to make sure none of them have shorted.
Even though you dont whale on them a lot, Chrysler was and still is notorious for cutting costs by using a smaller gauge of wire than what was recommended by the engineers.

EDIT: you might also want to check your window seals, you might have some moisture coming in from the top. Could also be the notorious bottom rot on the door allowing for moisture to come in that way.

Undersize wiring puts strain on the amplifier, not the speakers.

iWhitne, how did you fit 6X9s in holes made for 6-1/2" speakers?

If you are speaking to me, I was getting at a point that shows there might be a short.

So am I. My 2000 Quad Cab has 6-1/2" round speakers in the front doors and 5-1/4" round speakers in the rear doors. Is the 2001 different?

And I was referring to your comment on undersized wires.
Oddly, the speaker openings on the 2nd gen rams will allow for either a 6X9 speaker, or the 6-1/2 set up.

Gearbox, my drivers door speaker died a month ago in the same manner. I believe its the constant temp and humidity changes that do them in, along with any moisture.
I am considering buying either outdoor or marine rated speakers to see if they might last longer.
