Default Disabling the driver airbag on a 96 ram

My 1996 ram will soon be retiring to the farm so the kids will be able to drive it as well. My wife says I need to disable the driver airbag. Any ideas as to how to do this other than drive into it with a tractor.
Thanks

Where is the airbag controller? Is it in the steering wheel?
Thanks

Should be a fuse for it I would think. The controller is under the dash right in the middle with a cover on it.
My covers painted blue in the pic below (right above the black dfmu)

You can disassemble the steering wheel and remove the whole thing, or you can do what RM said, and unhook the controller found on the floor up close to the foot vents for the HVAC on the passengers side. It will be a little box with 2 screws holding it in. Should say "SRS EQUIPPED" or something like that.

I'm just curious, but if kids are going to be driving it, regardless if it's in the farm or not, wouldn't you want the airbag there now more then ever? An accidents an accident no matter where your at. If you really don't want it, I'd say just unbolt it. that way you know, FOR SURE, that it won't go off.

On our farm, we follow the same rule. Typically in a farm environment, that truck isnt going to go over 15-20 MPH at that speed an air bag will do more damage than it would good. Especially if there are going to be kids under 16 driving it.

Oh, okay. makes enough sense. I've lived in the city my whole life, so I wouldn't know any better.

Thanks for the info. I located the controller box and I assume just simply cut the power wire once in the box?
Will an indiot light come on when disabled?
Thanks

Yea, you can just cut the power to it, and yes an airbag indicator light will come on. It should be in the lower right hand corner of your dash.... Kinda annoying, but you can cut the power to that light as well....
