Your tranny, torque converter or OD unit is shot and needs rebuild, or you can try replacing the TCC/OD solenoid assembly and hope for the best.

thanks for the reply.

I have had no issues, and I experienced none at the time. I just looked down at the red light and saw the CEL.

should I try a fluid change first?

Yea, and inspect the wire harness while your in there, and remove and clean the Governor Solenoid and adjust the bands. Also look in the FAQ/DIY section and do the check valve delete. Can't hurt try before throwing in the towel.

Yes could someone help me out. I recently got a 2001 dodge ram with a 3.9L mag. in it. Its a 5 speed truck and i'm geting a p1740 and a stuck in neutral code witch i can't remember what that is. i'm not sure y my truck is getin that code when its a 5 speed. don't have a tc. Also the truck get about 8 different codes in it. 2 are the o2 sensor replaced both of them. Also one is a fan relay code. the truck runs good but when i clear the code's it run's like crap. also when it does start running good it wants to nose dive when giving it gas or lose power. but if u keep giving it gas it will start popping sounds like through the throttle body. If someone could help me would be nice i do have a code reader. Iam just frustrated at it. thought i would ask all ya'll thannk
