Default Opinion on Steelies

So, I'm tired of my wheels. They are nice wheels (Center Line 15" by 12"), but they are spaced out wider than the body by about 2 inches and this is causing extra wear on my ball joints and wheel bearings. Matter of fact, my upper ball joints are new, lowers are still good, and wheel bearings are new, but my front wheels STILL have a camber problem (tilted in toward the wheel well) which is causing cupping on the inner tread of my tires.

My idea, is to get rid of these wheels and get a set of spare tire steelies. I kinda like the way they look, they're strong wheels, stock size, and should be VERY cheap.

What do y'all think? Where could I find stock size steelies?

I can post a pic of my truck later if y'all like.

You can get a spare with a never been used tire for $45/each at my junkyard.

For street and mild off-road they should be fine, but if you look at the weight ratings between steel and aluminum wheels the difference is significant. a steel wheel is rated for around 2000 lbs, whereas an aluminum wheel is rated between 3000-3300. On a heavy, full-size truck this is a considerable difference.

Weird. I'd think a steel wheel would be rated higher.
Maybe the steel is thin.

Maybe I'll just look at getting a set of stock 17" aluminum rims and paint 'em black.

Now to find those.....

What about these:

http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/1248799679.html

Or these:

http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/1244710191.html

They are steelies, but they're not the spare tire rims. Would these be rated for a higher weight? If these will work, 50 buck aint bad fer 'em!

I know this question has been beat to death and then some, but what's the biggest tire size that'll fit on a stock rim?

I was thinkin the same thing. I would think they'd be strong enough. I can imagine the spare tire rims being weaker than the standard rims, but surely (please correct me if I'm wrong) the standard steelies are just as strong as the aluminums.

I mostly do street driving but do go off-road and I don't want to worry about bustin a rim. I plan on running the biggest tires that will confidently fit on the stock size rims (I DO have a 4X4 after all ).
