Default Noise when gas pedal is pushed

I'm not a mechanic at all, so maybe you all can help me with a noise I am having whenever I push my gas pedal. When I press it down, it sounds like a mass of air is escaping, but only if I push it down slightly, if I press it hard, it goes away, but on depress it will do it again, followed by a slight whistle, I will see if I can get either a video or sound clip of it soon if that will help. My friend thought it was an exhuast leak, but I always thought that made sort of a ticking sound. Thanks y'all!

Exhaust leaks typically whistle under throttle although you might hear ticking at idle if the leak is close enough to the head. Did you recently add an open top filter (K&N or the like)...these things make a strong vacuum like sound when you step on the gas that might sound like a problem if you've never heard it before.

Could be that your air filter housing isn't sealed to the throttle body. Pop the hood and try to wiggle the air filter housing around. If it's loose just tighten it back down and it should take care of your problem. It may also be that your throttle body gasket isn't sealing, but I doubt it. Hope this helps.

I haven't added anything to it yet, I just bought it. I've had an 03 ram 4.7 for awhile, but have always wanted the 01 4x4. It does whistle a little bit, I'll go check on the air filter and see if I can't get a recording of how it sounds.

CSXFan makes a good point...its not difficult to install the factory airbox incorrectly which would let air leak past the seal. Or you could be missing the seal...I accidently tore mine when I had to upgrade my plenum cover, its <$5 at most autoparts stores.

Are you talking about where the airbox connects to the throttle body with the clamp? I had mine off today and i dont see a gasket there at all? Am I missing something?

That would explain why it sounds like a vacuum leak when i accelerate. I will go and get it and see what it does
