ABS and brake light on, speedo works
Hey all,
New to the forum. Did a search for these symptoms and found many similars. They all point to sensor on rear diff. but also include speedo not working properly. Haven't checked my sensor yet, but I will this afternoon. Since my speedo does seem to be working, anybody have other suggestion?
Thanks in advance,
Chuck

If it is not the rear diff speed sensor then the range of possibilities is greatly expanded. It is easier to just replace it.
That said, keep in mind that you probably need the KIT, not just the sensor. At least on my 98 all the auto parts stores sell a sensor with the plug on the opposite side as normal. The kit includes a cable extender. (took me three stores to figure this out...including Napa). The dealership has the right one if nothing else.

Don't get confused fellas. You have the Speed Sensor on the diff for the speedometer. You also have an ABS Sensor (98 model and up IIRC). on the backing plates for the rear drum. If the ABS sensor goes bad, or breaks( I broke 3 on my 99 2500, stupid non working trailer brakes) it will light the Brake and ABS lights. Replace the ABS sensor disconnect the battery, and clear the PCM. Hook the battery back up, and POOF! No more lights on.
