All he needs to do is go to the local parts store and get a Converter for a 92-95 dodge ram with a 5.9 (360)... Same bolt circle and balanced the same as the old converter as per my specs sheet in the converter catalog from my supplier.
CR64 is the part number my book lists that will work in that trans for your application

when i bought my 2500 with the 5.9 v8 and 4x4 the guy had the transmission rebuilt at 134k (i have all the papers for everything ever done to the truck too) haha lasted 34k longer than what they usually last and he pulled a boat and trailer combo that weighted about ~7500lbs.
Also i have never seen a 4x4 v6 ram combo, unless it wasnt very popular???
Now i know if you get a dakota with the v6 and 4x4 you get the 44rh/re instead of the 42rh/re, (correct me if im wrong).

If you have a good converter from the 318 (neutral, non-weighted) buy a weighted flexplate for your 360, B&M makes them for LA or Magnum weight. I just picked up a 95 318 46rh with a nice aftermarket TC for $175, ordered the flexplate on Amazon for $83. Going into. 72 B300 Sportsman Royal Maxiwagon with the TAPC conversion kit.

Hello all I am new to this forum. I have been searching for some information for quite a while and have not been able to find anything specific but I have generated a few questions.
Here is my scenario:
My trans in my 97 dakota with a 44RE had pitch black trans fluid after not wanting to shift anymore. I replaced the governor solenoid and transducer as a result. After that it shift quite well from 1st through 3rd but would go into OD. After dropping the pan and look at the insides again I noticed that the fluid was burnt again and this time there were large chunks of metal. I decided to replace the trans. I couldn't find an intact 44RE at a local pull and pay so I looked for conversions. The 46RE swap became my choice. I found a 99 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.2L and an intact 46RE. I pulled the brackets and torque converter from it as well. I got it all installed and filled with fluid and started it up. It made the most horrible grinding noise ever. I have been told that it's the torque converter but there's a catch. Here is where I need help.
I obviously can't use the 44RE TC because the input shafts are so different. However, I've been told that I need a different TC than the stock one for a 46RE that I pulled from the pull and pay.
My questions are: is the person that told me this on crack or are they right?? Since I'm putting a 46RE in place of a 44RE, even though they were both bolted to a 5.2, can I not use a stock TC for a 46RE?? Does it need to have a different stall??
any and all help is welcome and appreciated. If clarification is needed please ask for it. I hope that I have been concise enough to describe the situation.

? Possible nv45 /w 5.9 swap /w ,3.1w/46re??? Thanks
359ci to be exact.
Fixed.
What are you talking about? (To the OP) Manual or Automatic? The 1/2 ton 318 and 360 both used the 46RH and 46RE transmissions. As well, the 3/4 and 1 ton 360s had the 46RE. The only manual transmission that came with the 1/2 tons was the NV3500. And you could only get a Manual 1/2 ton with the 318 engine. But you could get the 360 with the same NV4500 used by the 488 V10 and 359 Cummins I6 in the 3/4 and 1 ton.
