correct, it rules out the IAC. by mashing the gas you crack open the TB plates, which lets in air and bypasses the IAC port.

Ok, cool. And when I shut it off, it shouldnt drop very quickly, correct? I will check the evap canister too. Before long, I wont have anything else to do to my truck...im gonna get rid of the death flash and do the hughes as soon as I figure out this starting issue. I need to do some searching and figure out what the best way is to get rid of death flash and get good performance.

Thanks

fuel pressure should come up very quickly to 49 psi and maintain there whenever its running. when turned off, it should bleed off v-e-r-y slowly. when turned back "on" it should pop back up quickly.

if you suspect any vacuum leaks, then as a test - disconnect ALL vac lines from the manifold and cap off the manifold ports. this eliminates the possibility of downstream leaks. obviously it disables those downstream devices, but its a quick way to test.

www.superchips.com

shop around. if you buy a new one, try to get it for $250 or less. if you buy one used, be sure you understand how they work and the VIN locked process and guard against buying one that's VIN locked, otherwise you're hosed.

i bought one here for $230. they have none currently listed, but worth calling.

shift points - TC and OD only.

mpg - i didn't notice any improvement.

speedo/tires - yes.

eliminate death flash - yes.

causes pinging if you have bad plenum - yes.

So, I hooked a guage up to the fuel rail, and Im getting 50 psi while its running. And an initial 50 psi when the key is turned on, but it bleeds down pretty quick with just the key on. Holds 50 while running. Bleeds quickly after shut off. Any suggestions?

If it bleeds off really fast then the fuel pressure regulator on top of the pump is no good. You might be able to get a replacement at the dealer, but you still have to drop the tank to get to it. Might as well get a new pump and do the whole thing at once.

Fuel pump/filter? i had the same problem with my truck i would have to crank it for a lil bit for it to fire. Then last winter on the coldest day of the year my fuel pump died. Had a new one installed and ever since then it starts right up.
