The sensor is on the center of the rear.
Driver side, front of the truck of the ring/pinion housing on the rear rear.

For the rear, there is only one sensor, and it is on the pumpkin part of the axle.

At some point, they eliminated the sensor in the back of the trans/transfer case, but I am not sure when exactly that was.... Might have been the 98 model year.... so the rear sensor was indeed VSS.

If you don't have one on the output shaft of your transfer case, then that would be it.

Thanks for the info, mine must be on the rearend then, I have no sensors on my t case... My dad has a 99 2wd with a VSS issue, would the 2 wheelers have it back there too I assume?

edit: here's a pic of my rearend sensor I took a couple days ago, look like a VSS?

When you purchase a replacement would you please kindly share the part number/POS? Autozone sold me this and it is not the correct part.
Sidenote, should the oil in the rear end smell like ***?

*EDIT*
I suspect the part in the rear i pulled out was a ABS sensor.

Yep, used and new gear oil stinks.
I do now that the ABS sensor for the rear comes in a left and right ( different years ).
I have seen them with the plugs on the right side of the mounting tab and some on the left side of the mounting tab.
Make sure that you get the right one to have it mount easy.
