Default Clutch Life ?????

Another question, you'll all have to forgive me, as I have been a lifetime Toyota man and am trying to get my brain wrapped around my first ever Dodge. I LOVE IT by the way !!!!

anyway, I know that I can expect a very long clutch life with a Toyota (9 years of hard use now, it's a CF2), but not sure on the Dodge. I spend a lot of time in the mountains and haul my camper so I don't want it to start slipping on me. I don't really want to pull it apart when nothing is wrong, so I figure if I get some ideas on how long clutch's last you guys I can drive with a bit more piece of mind.

1996 Ram 2500 with trailer and off road package, I have 4.10 gears so there isn't as much drag on the clutch starting out under heavy load.

Thanks,

Hmmm I think the average is 60-70k for a clutch but.... see its hard to say. Someone might beat it and burn it out in 30k. Then you might have a guy that drives tons of highway miles and not be using the clutch much. I think its best if some people just add on to this post and tell you when they changed theses out and how they drive.

Then you have the modifiers like - tire size - off roading - hauling - blah blah blah.

I know once in my toyota sr5 I hooked my tow rope to the back of a chevy at the lake. He said since I had a smaller engine I could use 4x4 mode. Well with my wide *** tires in the low 4 gear I pulled him around the parking lot with his tires smoking backwards. Man it was funny as ****. What wasnt so funny was the clutch I replaced next week.

heres a pic. man this was a great truck... I blew the clutch out at 30k and the engine at 45k. But both were acts of stupidity and the engine was covered under the extended warranty.

But with a truck like this you just cant stop being crazy. Once I finish up my tour in germany im gonna make the 2000 dodge a beast and buy a new ram.

good luck....

Ahhh found a few more OLD crusty pictures from a past life. My parents had alot of land before the town grew like wildfire and I got my toy stuck in the back yard. I had to be pulled out by a backhoe. 10 bucks at the powerwash and a death threat from the owner of powerwash. He pulled up right before I got done. seems I ignored the NO OFFROAD DIRT sign...

lol

I've pulled plenty of full size trucks out of their "stucks" with my Toy, 4 low on that thing is amazing, go more places too, but I love my Dodge for the hauling and power etc. Hate the gas mileage, but can't see ever going back to just a small truck again. Of course my Yota is still a killer busg buggy.

anyway back to the topic, I have 32 x 9.5 tires, never ride the clutch, all in all I'm pretty easy one them. If and when I replace the clutch on the Dodge I will go with the Centre Force 2 again, I can't say enough about how well it held up in my Toy.

Have you ever seen this page.

Not too much about clutchs but maybe this will help if you just got the ram..

http://www.allpar.com/model/ram/faq.html

And yes I agree with you on the dodge. I wont go back to a small truck but the toyota got alot better gas mileage.

I would also like to hear what you all are getting on your clutch life. As I have 40k on the truck and am wondering what the average is for people who tow slightly but are not too rough on the clutch.
