Default AFR gauge reading (Rich)

Well, I got the bung welded today for 30 bucks. It works great, except I think the 24# injectors REQUIRE some custom tuning:

At WOT: THe gauge bottoms out to the rich side and reads 10.0

WHat can I expect to gain with a custom tune?

THe place has a dynojet and can do some custom tuning for me. $50 for 3 baseline dyno pulls or $100 per hour of tuning.

I got my SCT from Hemifever, so do you think he can send me some tunes for the extra 100, OR should I just have the place do the tunes for me.

Yes that's way too rich! I recall mine being in the mid 12s at WOT on the stock PCM.

The problem with a DynoJet is that it's an inertia dyno so you can only tune WOT, can't put different loads on it at varying RPM.

I think I'd datalog and have Hemifever do it...

Pay hemi, he knows that PCM inside and out.

Power is lost when the mix is excessively rich. 14.0-14.5 is optimum for a smooth idle that doesn't waste gas.

12.8 is the optimum AF at WOT. 13.2 makes a bit more power but it can ping on a hot day or hot cylinder.

lord only knows what the actual reading is.

As for data logging. i do not have a data logger. Can I do it just by eye and send hemifever the number?

I guess we can start at 10 and then fine tune from there. Basically it is so rich that it does not even display it. It is like when you pin the speedo...except this is the other way.

I don't want to jack your thread but would A AFR gauge be a waste of money for my 95 because I don't think I can do anything about it even if I am running rich. I know I am runing rich.

Another question is why you even have 24lb injectors in the first place?

Well without a datalogger you're probably SOL when it comes to tuning with Hemifever, might be better off just going to the dyno.

Hemi can write a better tune if you give him the AF at WOT. It'll take a few tunes to dial it in.
Just tell him what the AF is when its floored and he can back it down little by little.
It isn't as good as a full spectrum, varied load and RPM tune, but its a start.

WOT tuning is possible because of all the stuff the PCM ignores and what can be assumed when zooming at full throttle. No O2 compensations, TPS at 100%, etc.

I wanted 4 hole injectors...FMS 24s is what they had. Also, i wanted some room for modifications down the road. Stock is 22lb. I have 24.

I know a guy with 26# but he only uses half duty cycle. Maybe I can cut to 75% duty cycle and see what happens.

A data logger can be as simple as a laptop, the right cable, and free software. Cables are available from many different companies these days, as is the software. Cables run 20-60 bucks.

well, I have a line running from the AFR gauge for data logging, but it is just a 20 gauge wire. Needs to plug into something.

I think I will try some tunes from hemifever with the WOT AFR number. THen try a few pulls with the dynojet to dial it in.

OH, this morning, the AFR was more like 10.8 at WOT. THis is when the engine is cold before operating temp (when it hits closed loop).
