Does it drive with no issues with overdrive off ? The transmission doesn't actually have a 4th gear it's a three speed with overdrive unit.

How much does the RPM change if you maintain 55mph?

Bet the overdrive spring is on its way out, how well maintained is the tranny? I’ve had 2 rams and on both I’d change transmission fluid and filter every 10k….my 95 had 245k when I traded, drove perfect….my current 02 ram has 162k and it’s original tranny, I’ve changed fluid and filter 3 times and replaced governor pressure solenoid and transducer when I got it, my fluid never smells burnt, always stays bright red, and it shifts great, but I’ve also adjusted bands and tv cable as needed as well, I do tow a lot, off road, and I’m not easy on it (I don’t beat it but I don’t baby it) maintaining them is crucial cuz it’s the biggest weak point on our trucks IMO

95RAM360, thank you for this little paragraph. I have been contemplating whether to replace the 46RE I currently have in my 96 or drop the pan and adjust the bands and the TV cable. I have already replaced springs and solenoid and ducer as you have but I still have shifting issue between 2nd and 3rd. But after reading your paragraph I believe I will drain her again and adjust the bands and TV cable see what happens. Didn't mean to hijack this thread!!!

Late 2nd to 3rd I had same issue not to long ago, your tv cable needs adjusting…

mine would hang up in 2nd, to about 3-3300 rpm then slam 3rd and immediately shift back to second. Found when it gets to 2500-2700 if I let of gas and tap it slow it would shift just fine,

that’s when I adjusted tv cable and it solved that issue

Also check that return spring isn’t worn, lay under truck on drivers side and look for the rod on side of tranny. Have someone hit the gas pedal with truck off to full throttle and back and make sure return spring is pulling rod back.

once someone hits gas pedal you’ll see it moving….well should unless it’s that far out of adjustment

Ok, I have adjusted the bands accordingly and also adjusted the TV cable. I noticed different sift points and it hits a little harder. However, she still won't shift from 2nd to 3rd.I could get her all the way up to 4,000 rpms until I let off feel. it drop and shift and then go on. Need help!!!!
