whining when in reverse
My '97 Ram 4X4 began whining/squilling when backing up in 2wd, is worse uphill. Any ideas?

It's called reverse moan. Just leave it alone. Usually only when cold right?

Phew. Good to know this is nothing to worry about. This started on mine recently, but I live in Buffalo NY and lately it's been freezing here so that must be it.
My rig has 46,160 right now, so tranny problems this early would kill me.

The manual valve in the trans rattles/buzzes in its chamber in the valve body as cold fluid moves by it. Mine does the same thing, usually goes away when the trans fluid gets to about 60*. Totally normal for a Dodge. Loud and scary as hell the first few times you hear it each year.

Mine was doing that when it was low on fluid, make sure you check it in neutral. After I added some fluid it's quiet now.
