will this work in mine?
hey guys,
i have a '97 ram 1/2t 4wd with 3:55 gear ratio...my rearend is bad, i have been told its an 8 1/4 or the small rearend...
i found this on craigslist last night and was wondering first if it would fit and second if his description of 9 1/4 is correct...here's part of his post:
"...I have a 1987 dodge I am parting out. 4-speed and transfer case $120.00 dana 44 front end, 9 1/4 rearend, 3.54 gears $140.00..."
the difference between 3:55 and 3:54 is minimal...my question is, will it bolt up in the same place mine is...i ask this because its 100 miles away and i don't wanna waste the gas if it won't...
mine does not have abs so i don't think there will be any 'puter or wiring troubles there...
thanks guys for any info.

I'm almost 100% positive all the 1500s in 1997 were made with Chrysler 9.25 rear ends in them. I think the 8.25 were for early models or maybe even dakotas. That being said I'm pretty sure that a 1987 axle probably doesn't have the same suspension mounts as a 1997 so some custom fabbing would have to be done. Also, you have ABS in the rear of the truck just not in the front. Probably better off junk yard hunting or fixing your old axle.
