33s on 2wd Ram?
Can I fit 285/70 17s on a 2wd ram w/o a lift if I get the right backspacing on whatever rims I get? If not what about 285/65 17s? I have only seen a few brands with this size, though. I tried a search, but couldn't find any straight answers on anything but 4x4s.

It will rub most likely, certain brands of tire might not though(while driving on road)......be real easy to pick up a spacer and then not have to worry
A 1.5" daystar spacer is about $50 shipped
Never seen a 285/65/17 but it might fit.

I saw a 2nd gen Ram at work this past weekend that had 285's on it. Looked great. It had Eagle Alloys that were deeper set than stock, so they stuck out. I noticed the driver's side fender liner had a hole cut it in, so they apparently rubbed.

actually, the only ones I saw were yokohama geolanders in 285/65 17 (31.6 in tall and 11.6 wide), but I plan on getting some 17x8 cragar d-windows, so what backspacing should I get to cram them under?

the 4.25 would give a deeper look to the wheel right? or is it the other way around?

More backspacing tucks the wheels further into the fenders. (and gives a higher likelihood of rubbing on the control arms. at least, on the 4wd guys....)

Yes your right, the less the backspacing the deeper the wheel will look
