I did a search, and for an 01, the entire A/C system (compressor, evaporator, condenser, etc) only has a max of 6.25 ounces. I wouldn't add more than the 1 ounce or you will probably have too much oil in the system. Remember, there is already oil in the system. All you want to do is not start up a dry compressor.

You are indeed right, 2001 is 6 oz. I looked in the 98 manual and 98 and 99 uses 8 oz. However, adding 2 ounces will be fine. It will disperse itself throughout the system. It's going to hurt anything. I'd rather have a little extra, than not enough.

I had the same question when I replaced my compressor a few weeks ago. How much oil to add was listed nowhere. A guy at Advance Auto told me to add a couple of ounces. I did that. It's been working. The only issue I have is that the compressor (Compressor Works) makes a bit of a knock when it's running. Did so from the very first start up.

Go over there and let them hear it. They should give you a new one.

yeah man you shouldnt have any knocking. Definitly take that back. Either have them hear the noise or take it out and take it back. I would have them hear the noise just so they dont give u any ****.

I didnt have time to wait so I read on the net most places were saying to ounces so i put in a little over 2 oz. I also was being cheap and had a used compressor i pulled from the junkyard and it worked! The shop vacuumed it and recharged it and the AC blows ice cold. I would agree when in down 2 oz and you should be fine. I asked the shop and they said 2 oz is the general rule of thumb for an ac compressor
