I replaced my fuel pump after removing my bed bolts and a lot of cussing. I lifted only the front of the bed so I didn't have to disconnect any wiring in the back. I also replace my coil as one of the post recommended. The next few days it will be over a hundred and I will be driving around. It will be my best test to see if one them worked.
you don't have to buy a code reader, or take it anywhere.. yours is a '98..
do the key trick..
turn the ignition on three times fairly rapidly, don't engage starter.. on third time, leave it on.. observe your digi odometer panel, and codes will appear.. write them down and look them up..
Check the pick up coil (cam sensor) also. How to check Im not sure but a friend of mine had the same problem several years ago with his car and that was the culprit.
Having same problem have changed out ignition coil didn't help pickup coil sounds reasonable thanks
