I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with a cummins, I am wondering where i can find my lift pump if it has one. I want to replace it if it has it to ensure i dont have to replace my ignition pump later. I have Quad Cab Sport Short Bed. Any help would be great i am new to dodge and new to diesel.

 

I sure hope you have a lift pump.
Downloading the 2001 factory service manual from the FAQ's section will help you out alot.
And installing a fuel pressure gauge in the cab is very important.

Stock lift pump location is at the left (drivers side) rear of the engine block.
#15 is what you wanna replace.
And btw, it's the $1000+ injection pump (not ignition pump lol, there's no such thing) that will be taken out by the lift pump, that is if the lift pump loses too much fuel pressure.

 

Oh yeah, almost forgot... If the stock pump & filter were already replaced, the aftermarket one will either be on the frame rail (like an Air Dog, FASS, etc.) or in the tank. In the case you already have an aftermarket one, you shouldn't really have to replace it, just watch the fuel pressure closely.

And again, get a fuel pressure gauge if you haven't already.

 

thanks for that diagram, i found it this morning and already ordered a raptor lift pump. And yes it is an injector pump and was having a bit of a brain fart.

I ordered a new Turbo back exhaust and am having my turbo rebuilt right now as the impeller was roasted. i know my stock exhaust has what looks to be two mufflers but the tip is pinched so i am thinking that might have killed my turbo.

one more simple question and im sure i know the answer but my exhasut manifold is welded and doesnt leak as it cracked. Should i replace this item or would you think i am ok running that manifold? i just dont want it to somehow roast my turbo....

And one of the mufflers is actually a resonator, unless someone replaced it with a second muffler?

Anywho, not sure what you're saying about the manifold. Is it welded, but cracked again, and doesn't leak? Or it was cracked and you just welded it? If it is cracked, the crack isn't gonna get any smaller just bigger. And a leaky manifold doesn't do a very good job spoolin' up the turbo.

It's not a big deal to replace right away, but once the funds allow, I'd definitely get on that before it cracks big time. A 3-piece manifold (instead of the stocker) might be a good replacement.

 

i appreciate the help, still waiting for my new Raptor Pump to arrive. I will install it ASAP. In the mean time i am getting 4 codes wonder if anyone has a good direction to go with these codes

Any hints as to what to do, or where to start?

I jsut had my turbo rebuilt and replaced my exhaust with a 4" turbo back.

 

P0126 Insufficient ECT for Stable Operation
P0230 Transfer Pump (Lift Pump) Circ Out Of Range
P1689 No Comm between ECM & Inj Pump Mod
P1693 DTC Detected in Companion JTEC Mod

Reset the computer, see which codes come back.

those are death codes...

replace the lift pump reset your codes (on off with key 4 times)

hopefully those codes don't come back...if they do, means the injection pump is on borrowed time and the reaper is following its every move...

 

also my truck will not start, it will turn over but never start. Also when i turn the keys to ignition i dont hear the sound of a pump priming the system....
