Vibration Damper Removal/Installation

Vibration Damper Removal/Installation
After lots of research and not finding what I feel is the correct procedure I was hoping this thread will result in a definitive resolution. When it comes to 'use the right tools for the job' thing it's just not always feasible. So the crank pulley and vibration damper aka harmonic balancer needs to be removed but no compressor & related tools. Engine IS in the truck. Really don't want to utilize the flywheel to prevent the crank from spinning. I also don't want to use a top dead center location stop tool either. I just want to know the CORRECT way to prevent the crankshaft from spinning when trying to pull the VD...
I'll be removing the oil pan during the time of this job...
For those that don't know, auto part stores loan/rent puller/install kits...
Also can buy the Mopar Puller/Installer Part# C-3688
Thanks for any help..pics are nice & links too..

I'm not sure how you would do it without jamming the flywheel. I just did mine and an impact wrench got it off easily enough, but putting back on you have to put some crazy torque on it.
Oh and on the rental pullers/installers: Assemble it and make sure all the parts are in good working order before taking it home. I didn't and ended up spending about 30 minutes trying to get the pushnut on the mangled installer shaft.

I was worried about that and what if the part store only has one set..that would be lame ;D

I broke mine loose using the starter. Ensure the fuel injectors are disconnected from the harness, and the serpentine belt is off the pulleys. Put the wrench on the VD, brace the wrench against the frame (pay attention to the direction of normal engine rotation - I think it's clockwise, so you should brace the wrench on the driver's side frame), and crank the starter for a split second.
