Default 1999 ram rear brake adjustment

My rear brakes dont seem to self-adjust, so I was going to manually spin the star adjuster, but the adjustment holes dont have a removable plug, just metal knock-outs.Two questions-if I knock these metal tabs out, will they just bend inward or will they come loose and fall inside? Also, there are two knock-outs per side-is the adjuster behind the front or rearmost hole?

I pull the drums and clean inside and then adjust them when putting them back on works best for me makes replacement easier (I wheel mine on a regular basis)

just drive it in reverse and mash on the emergency brake a few times, it will adjust them as tight as they can get.

If'n it were mine, I'd remove the adjusters and lubricate them properly. Any high temperature grease is fine as long as you don't overdo it. The last thing you want is for the grease to liquify (and maybe even burn) when you're smoking the brakes off on a long downgrade with weight on.

If memory serves, the adjusters are in the rear holes. Whether or not the knockouts would hang around while you're playing with the brakes doesn't matter, it's that they will eventually fall into the drum while you're driving that counts. Getcha some rubber plugs before pulling the drums to lube the adjusters and you won't have to worry about it.
