Default 96 1500 5.2 knocking

Hello gents, I'm back with more issues with the beast. When I try to start the truck, it's starts, there is loud knocking and then it quickly shuts off. I took it in and they told me it was the main bearing, which I don't believe to be the issue at all, any advice?

knocking from the lower part of the engine is usually a main crank bearing or rod bearing, or broken rod or piston. why do you think its not that?

you can remove the oil pan and turn the engine by hand to see what's hitting.

But why would that cause the engine to shut off? Is it the knock sensor?

i don't know. could be any of a million reasons-
compression problem.
lack of fuel.
coolant leak into cylinder.
moving parts of the engine binding up.

i'd say that it shutting off is secondary to it knocking.
find out what the knock is before worrying about anything else.

I might end up taking it to the dealership, all the other shops are run by retards around here that charge me for engine tear down, but don't tear down the engine.
