1999 Dodge 2500 steering box adjustment

The procedure should be in the factory service manual, which is available for download on this site. The procedure I used to adjust the box is to loosen the locknut on top of the steering box. Use an allen wrench to lightly tighten the center nut just enough to feel some resistance from the adjuster screw. Once adjusted, hold the adjuster screw in place with the allen wrench and tighten the locknut. Test drive the truck and see if it better. Please note that the slop may be coming from the steering column, too.. Also, the factory steering boxes have a tendancy to just wear out over time. If you find the slop won't adjust away to your liking, then best to think about purchasing a new steering gearbox from either Borgeson or Redhead.

Here is the procedure, but, you are wasting your time without a couple special tools. Get a Red-Head steering box, done.
