5.2 vs 5.9 flex plate/TC weights

Haha. Either way I could do some good preventive maintenance while I have everything torn apart. Are torque converters a weak point on these? Should I replace it with a quality one while it's out, since it's probably original? Or go with the if it's not broke don't fix it plan. Tranny seems to be in good shape for now

By chance has a comp test been done on this motor? I would think it a good idea to do one before you pull it out, make sure you have a good motor before spending time on it. Never pulled a motor out of a rango before, but thats the route I would take, I would rather spend most of my time working above not under a truck/suv. I would drop the trany pan and see what's in the oil before putting in a new verter, if the oil is good/clean yep upgrade time.

The guy I got it from claimed the compression was solid, but I haven't done it personally. The motor seems to run fine other than what is described, and would probably outrun my 5.9 ram I had with 4.10 gears so I think power wise it does fine. I have changed the fluid and filter and it shifts fine, I was just thinking if it was a common fail part I could do it now versus pull it twice.

I would get under the truck sorry suv pull the inspection cover, turn the motor over by hand and look for the weight, it will be visible. Next if you unbolt the verter and push it back is there enough room for that weight to get past it.
Edit; I would do my own comp test just to make sure it won't take you long to do one.

Uhh! No,the weight(s) are welded to the flex plate. All you can do is remove the inspection plate and see if they exist. You also need to remove the starter. IMHO, this is all going in the wrong direction without checking out other stuff. Motor mounts, tranny mount, tire balance, rear axle wheel bearings, ujoints and rear driveshaft balance to name a few.
