The startup flare is normal. So long as it comes down to around 1K rpm when cold, and around 600 or so when fully warmed.

The platinum plugs were a waste. More often than not, the engine doesn't like them, and you get a miss, or other odd running behavior.

Check TV cable adjustment. Should be no slop in the cable, and it shouldn't be pulling the arm on the trans off of its stop either. There is and adjustment procedure in the service manual, which you can download from the 2nd Gen Faq section. (in the service manual thread. Get the 2001 version.)

Reset your PCM. (disconnect the battery, turn on the headlights, turn off headlights, reconnect battery.) Drive it for a day or two, and see if anything improves. If not, take it back to the trans shop.

Gonna move this to second gen tech for ya as well.

Welcome to DF!

Need to check and see if you plenum is good. If you truck is high mileage, (over 80K) probably want to replace at least the front O2 sensor as well.

Skip Bosch. Our trucks don't really like their O2 sensors. Go with NTK, or Denso. (both available from Rock Auto for a reasonable price, plus, discount codes in the general discussion section.)

With 200K on it, the O2 sensors are more than likely toast. (slow response, won't necessarily set a code.)

If you have to go with the OEM steel plate, grind the ~1/4" unthreaded portion on the end of the plenum pan bolts off before you put them in. If you screw one in without the pan or gasket, you'll see why.

Do not use any type of silicon sealant on the plenum gasket, if you use anything aircraft gasket sealer is the best bet for that job. I like to suggest that the lifters get replaced when doing this job 8 out of 10 times people get back on here and they have a lifter tick and have to tear it all down again.

My list just for the plenum job.

Theses are Mopar performance part numbers, they are cheaper than just stock replacement parts from Dodge. Some parts are the same as the stock ones others are better.

P4876049 Intake Manifold Gasket Set (5.9L Truck Magnum/Jeep Engines) $33.25
P4876772 Intake Manifold Attaching Bolts $7.75 for the set.
P5249862 Magnum roller lifters one set of 16 $117.50
