Default Ordering Harmonic Balancer, any other parts?

I need to get it swapped out this weekend. im getting the oil seal overnighted from rockauto for cheaper then I can get one locally, so while im adding to my cart I seen there is Harmonic balancer sleeves
http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...nal_18445044-p
are these needed? if so, where do they go during the install?

can I get the old oil seal off/out w/out taking timing cover off by chance? if not guess i'll skip that at this time.

thanks in advance.

If you are getting a new or reman'd balancer, you should not need a sleeve - the sleeve goes on the balancer hub in the area that comes in contact with the seal. The new balancer's hub should be clean and free of grooves or imperfections.

The seal can be easily removed with a seal puller. You should be able to install the new seal with a proper sized socket that can fit over the crank, without removing the front cover.

before I checkout, this is the main seal for the front where the most common oil leak comes from correct?

Correct - that looks like the right seal to me. Do you have a harmonic balancer puller to remove the old balancer? Also helpful to have a balancer installer tool, however, its not a requirement.

I'm just going to rent a puller and use the bolt and impact to drive it in (if that is a safe way to do it) .. Never messed w/a balancer before, seen the bolt and impact install on YouTube.

I'll probably just grab the install tool too just to be safe and have on hand.

Thanks again AtomicAtomic.

Should be able to change the seal without pulling the cover. They are fun to get out.... Use a deep well socket, or a seal driver.... to install the new one. Put some grease on the sealing surface before you install it. Don't want to start the engine with it dry, as that will just trash it in short order.

Not a problem. I got it from advance. $79.99 I think it was but I ordered it online and used a $25 off coupon and got it for $55.50 out the door (went and picked it up in store)..

They want $36 for the seal but rock auto has it for $8 and with overnight shipping and 5% off I got that overnighted for $24.74.. Same brand as advance, National brand.

I called around on balancers to see if there was different styles and they are all dorman balancers. Napa wanted $101, advance $79, rock auto $59+ shipping, best bet is advance and use the $25 off $75 purchase....

And thanks HeyYou.. Hopefully its not too cold in the garage tonight cause I plan on getting it done tonight in time to go play in the snow tomorrow.
