Default Oops. Busted Coolant Temp Sensor....

I searched through a bunch of pages, but just found info on the temp sensor, or how to replace it. Unfortunately I know how to replace it.. However, upon putting a new one in, I was wrenching it and out of no where.. "Snap".... Yeah. Bummer. Any ideas on how to get it out? It is straight up flush with the motor. Its brass, so I am freaked out about messing with it, and NONE of the shops up town here will touch it. I have a 700 mile drive in ten days.. Its not leaking or going to come out, period.. At least on its own. The mechanic up town said to just snap in the new one and zip tie it somewhere. I dunno exactly how smart that idea is. You?

Easy out. Drill thru it a bit, but, not all the way thru. Use the biggest easy out that will fit in there. Might be able to dig out the sensor portion, and not have to drill at all.

That sensor MUST be in the coolant passage for the engine to run worth a darn. Simply zip-tieing it somewhere isn't an option. You will be lucky if it runs at all like that. (and it will SUCK gas.)

Well, so far I haven't had to drill. I'm using a screw extractor. Kinda nervous about drilling near that thing, so I tapped it, carefully, and managed to get it to grab and turn up where I can get ahold of the edge. Whew. Ill finish getting it out this morning, I HOPE. May have to rethread the hole, but its better than taking that thing apart.

Seems like a good time for some engine upgrades!

At the very least, address the plenum if you haven't already done so...don't let any of those intake manifold bolts break like your sensor did...pb blaster is your friend
