I have an 01 dodge ram. just bought it with 177000 miles on it. Im having two codes thrown but when took to a repair store they tell me itll always throw those codes since my cat is of. the codes are the P0031 and P0132.

here is what its doing when driven:
- will run for about 2-3 miles then boggs but when given gas to get speed it makes a tick noise in front end so i will stop and pull over and the truck wants to die but wont at all itll just have really bad idle. i shut it off wait for a few minutes start it back up and it acts perfectly fine until another couple miles. I have had the 02 sensors checked and they are fine. the cat is off and the motor is stock.

i need help figuring out what on earth its doing so i can get it to actually running. i dont got the spare money to buy random parts and take guesses i wanna know exactly what it could be! thanks. i just got the dang thing and its already acting up.

 

Doesn't sound like the front O2 sensor is fine at all. Unplug it, go for a drive, see what happens.

 

both 02 sensors were told was good. i bought a new one and they told me its fine. its giving me the engine light because the cats off? how easy is it to do this and what will results do if unplugged?

 

Unplugging it won't hurt anything. (aside from a slight drop in fuel economy) But, if the truck runs better, then you know the sensor is indeed bad. O2's have a variety of failure modes, the fact that your truck will run good for a few, and then start screwing up coincides nicely with how long it takes for the O2 to warm up, and the PCM to start paying attention to it.

The rear O2 sensor code is because of the lack of a cat. Doesn't hurt anything, just annoying to have the lite on. You can do the non-fouler trick for the rear, and eliminate that problem. (there is a DIY in the FAQ section for just such an occasion.)

Make sure to unplug the FRONT O2 sensor. The connector is up on top of the trans, so, bring your arm with its three elbows.

 

can i unplug it from underneath? and uhhh no 3 elbows on this arm!

Ill have to do this later around 6pm. is this the only cause that will fix this problem?

 

Also wanna know if a 2004 dodge ram hemi will fit into my 01 dodge ram v6?

Yep, gotta crawl underneath to unplug it. Upstream sensor. (before the cat.)

The hemi will *fit*, but, it would be a major undertaking to make it run. Wiring is different, sensors are different, won't bolt to the current trans you have, new trans will want the correct PCM to make it work, etc.

Look at the thread by DDRI about doing a hemi swap.
